Croatia opened and temporarily closed first chapter in EU membership negotiations

On Monday, 12 June 2006, at the Intergovernmental Accession Conference between Croatia and the EU in Luxembourg, opened and temporarily closed the first chapter in EU membership negotiations

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović headed the Croatian delegation at the Accession Conference that opened and temporarily closed the negotiations on the chapter Science and Research.

In her speech, Minister Grabar-Kitarović said that Croatia is determined to meet its obligations, continue with the reforms in justice and other areas, work on fighting corruption, refugee return, and regional co-operation, and continue to fully co-operate with the ICTY.

Minister Grabar-Kitarović pointed out that Croatia recognises the importance of a successful implementation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement for further progress of the accession negotiations, stressing the Croatian side’s expectations for the dynamics of the opening of the negotiations chapters to be based on Croatia’s individual achievements.
