North Korea unsuccessfully launched the missile on Thursday. The missile fell apart shortly after the launch, falling into the sea on the western side of the Korean peninsula.

The ministry recalls that the failed attempt to launch a missile is in violation of UN resolutions 1718 and 1874, which ban North Korea from launching such missiles.

The ministry considers this move as contrary to the efforts of the international community which are directed at building an atmosphere of trust and stability on the Korean peninsula, and calls upon the authorities of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to firmly comply with its internationally assumed commitments.
