Croatia assumes presidency over UN Peacebuilding Commission

The Republic of Croatia 28 January assumed one-year presidency over the UN Peacebuilding Commission. Last year, Croatia was co-chairing the Commission.

In his address as the chairman, Permanent Representative to the UN Ranko Vilović stressed Croatia’s experiences and contribution to the building of peace and laid out the priorities of Croatia’s presidency. These include the further advancement of relations between the Commission and the main UN bodies, continued discussion on cooperation in mobilizing the resources as one of the principal functions of the Commission, enhancement of the Commission’s field activities, and continued debate on the development of relations between the Commission and key partners, notably international financial institutions, World Bank and African Development Bank, as well as charitable organizations.

The Peacebuilding Commission is one of the main bodies of the UN, concurrently established by the General Assembly and the Security Council. It is tasked with the coordination and efficient functioning of the Un peacebuilding architecture.
