On 10 and 11 April 2006 in Peking, the People’s Republic of China, consultations were held between the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The consultations were held on the assistant minister-director general level, and were led by Assistant Minister for Bilateral Co-operation Ivica Tomić and Director General of the Directorate for Europe Kong Quan. Apart from Quan, Tomić also met with Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui.

The consultations reiterated the high level of the bilateral relations between Croatia and China in all areas of mutual interest. In that regard, the two sides especially pointed out the importance of the Joint Statement signed by Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao in May 2005, which raised the level of the relations to the “general co-operation partnership” and laid the foundations for the further deepening and intensification of the co-operation.
