Bosnian Presidency and visiting Croatian FM hold meeting

(Hina) - Bosnia and Herzegovina's presidency and Croatia's Foreign Minister Miro Kovač agreed on Friday in Sarajevo that strengthening friendly relations between the two countries was of mutual interest and a priority, announcing that efforts to reinforce bilateral relations would continue during the new Croatian government's term.

The three-member Presidency including Dragan Čović, Bakir Izetbegović and Mladen Ivanić received Kovač in Sarajevo as part of his first official visit abroad after he took office last Friday.

A press statement released after the talks notes that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia nurture good neighbourly and friendly relations as well as good relations across the region. Bilateral relations between the two countries are assessed as intensive which can be confirmed by numerous visits at high levels.

Minister Kovač expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina was his first abroad in his ministerial role and at the same time relayed greetings to the Presidency from the Croatian government and Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.

During the meeting, support was expressed for the Presidency's decision to submit a request for Bosnia-Herzegovina's membership to the European Union (EU) in Brussels on February 15. It was assessed that the application for EU members would additionally encourage bilateral and regional cooperation.

During the meeting, interest was shown in efforts to resolve outstanding issues between the two countries which will be achieved with more meaningful cooperation between the two governments and strengthening political dialogue.

During his visit to Sarajevo, Kovač was received by B-H Prime Minister Denis Zvizdić and by Sarajevo Archbishop, Cardinal Vinko Puljić.
