Assistant Minister Pjer Šimunović participated in Sarajevo at meeting of AII foreign ministers, at which Croatia assumed presidency

Assistant Minister at the Directorate for International Organisations and Security Pjer Šimunović participated at the meeting of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative’s (AII) foreign ministers, held on 1 June 2007 in Sarajevo, at which Croatia assumed the presidency for the 2007/2008 period

The Republic of Croatia took over the presidency from Bosnia and Herzegovina for the period from June 2007 until May 2008. The meeting also established the joint interests for the development of regional co-operation and determined the joint co-operation in economy, transport networking and environmental protection. The member countries also agreed on setting up the AII Liaison Office, while its headquarters and are to be determined at the meeting of the AII high officials during Croatia’s presidency.

Apart from Croatia, the members of AII are: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, the Hellenic Republic, Italy, Slovenia and Serbia. It was founded in 2000 as a regional forum for the strengthening of peace and security in that part of Europe, good-neighbourly relations, economic development, continental transport networking, suppression of all forms of crime, technical assistance, environmental protection, health and cultural co-operation, tourism development, and maritime co-operation.
