Assistant Minister Pjer Šimunović participated at 117th meeting of CoE Committee of Ministers

The Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration at the Directorate for International Organisations and Security, Pjer Šimunović, participated at the 117th meeting of the Committee of Ministers, the Council of Europe’s main administrative organ, held on 10 and 11 May 2007 in Strasbourg

The meeting saw the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Council of Europe and the European Union, setting up a new framework of co-operation between the two organisations for the purposes of ensuring a better complementariness between their activities in respecting the common values of democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

The ministers also adopted the guidelines for future CoE activities, including the enhancement of the relations with the EU and other international organisations, long-term positioning of CoE within the European institutional architecture, and ensuring the efficiency of the European Court for Human Rights and the activities of CoE in promoting the dialogue between cultures and religions. On this occasion, the Republic of Montenegro was admitted to CoE membership as its 47th member.
