Assistant Minister Pjer Šimunović headed Croatian delegation at UN General Assembly’s Commemorative Plenary Session on Children

Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Pjer Šimunović headed the Croatian delegation at the UN General Assembly’s Commemorative Plenary Session on Children, held on 11 and 12 December 2007 in New York

Assistant Minister Šimunović pointed out the importance of the existence of a legal framework in Croatia forbidding physical punishment of children in families and public institutions. He also noted that despite the significant progress that has been realised since the 1st session in 2002, there are still many children in the world suffering violence and various forms of exploitation.

The goal of this year’s session is to determine what has been done globally in the past 5 years to improve the conditions of children’s growing up, namely in health care, education, and protection from abuse and exploitation, and to raise the level of child rights In that regard, the Republic of Croatia has prepared a National Report on the achievements made in implementing the World Fit for Children, a document passed at the 2002 session.
