On the occasion of the election of the director of the State Weather Bureau, Mr Ivan Čačić, as president of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Regional Association Europe (RA VI), the Croatian State Weather Bureau and the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in the Kingdom of Belgium organized a gathering at the Solvay library, Brussels.

Ambassador Grigić congratulated the newly elected president on the unanimous support received for his candidature. The election was held in Brussels at the 15th session of RA VI, the association responsible for the coordination of meteorological, hydrological and related activities carried out by national services in 50 countries situated in Europe, the Caucasus and the Middle East.

The appointment of Mr Ivan Čačić as president of the most developed region out of the six regions which the World Meteorological Organization is divided into is a recognition of Croatia’s international activities with the World Meteorological Organization. It is also particularly significant in the context of the increased importance of national meteorological and hydrological services in the mitigation of risks related to the consequences of adverse weather and disasters caused by global climate change. This creates possibilities for the State Weather Bureau and its experts to further advance their activities in international professional and scientific circles. It is also an acknowledgement to the entire the State Weather Bureau for its professional work and contribution to European and world hydrometeorology.
