A meeting was held of culture advisors and the personnel responsible for the promotion of culture

In the organisation of the Independent Service for Croats Abroad and Culture of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, on Thursday, 2 June 2009, a meeting was held of culture advisors and the personnel responsible for the promotion of culture in diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Croatia in European states

Advisor to the Minister for Croats Abroad and Culture Mirjana Bohanec Vidović spoke about the importance of culture for the promotion of Croatia as a Central European and Mediterranean country. She thanked the representatives of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports for their cooperation, and she wished further success in their work to culture advisors and personnel responsible for the promotion of culture in diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Croatia in European states.

Director of the Diplomatic Academy Mladen Andrlić was the second speaker in a number of speeches addressing culture advisors and personnel responsible for the promotion of culture who attended the meeting. Speaking about the main directions of diplomatic activity of the Republic of Croatia and the role of culture advisors, Mr. Andrlić mentioned the importance of culture in presenting the state at national level being a proponent of positive values, the promotion of culture for the purposes of the national interests, and more frequent use of marketing strategies and methodology in public diplomacy. Likewise, he stressed that the skills and techniques such as multidisciplinarity, presentation and oratory skills, fluency in the language of the target country, and good “marketing” writing skills were important elements in the work of culture advisors, and he underlined the importance of continuous education.

Other participants in the meeting, employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, discussed the subjects concerning the support to the personnel working in diplomatic missions of Croatia abroad who are responsible for culture, bilateral cooperation in education, science and research, education system in the Croatian language, Croatian Language Instructorship at higher education institutions, and the role of diplomacy in the promotion of culture.

The meeting of culture advisors and the personnel in charge of cultural promotion in diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Croatia in European states will continue tomorrow at the Ministry of Culture.
