Minister Grlić Radman meets with Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Friday received Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

Grlić Radman said the visit was an opportunity to discuss advancing bilateral ties and joint interests, as well as to expand the rich spectrum of EU-India relations.

“We just got back from an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Slovenia, where Minister Jaishankar was a special guest. This testifies to the importance of India’s geopolitical position and its cooperation with the EU. We base our relationship on the common values of democracy, freedom and rule of law. We are committed to the principles of multilateralism, which is especially important in the context of the situation in Asia and the stability of the Indo-Pacific that inevitably reflect on the European area as well. Concerning the crisis in Afghanistan, Croatia and India prioritize humanitarian aid, controlled migration and the fight against terrorism,” Grlić Radman said.

The two ministers agreed that the relations between Croatia and India are growing, with a potential to advance cooperation in economy, culture, education, science, defence and tourism. “I invited Indian tourists to visit Croatia when the circumstances allow. Croatia is often a country of choice for the Indian film industry. I am glad that this year too Croatia has been recognized as a safe destination,” Grlić Radman underlined. Jaishankar agreed that tourism was an important area where cooperation could be intensified, adding that they also discussed opening a direct Croatia-India flight.

Grlić Radman also underscored that India would support the holding of the annual Roma conference in April 2022.
