State Secretary Chastel reiterated the Kingdom of Belgium’s full support for the Republic of Croatia along its road to the EU, especially in light of the current Belgian EU presidency. State Secretary Plenković informed him about the expected dynamic of closing the negotiation, as well as about the planned signing of Croatia’s Accession Treaty during Hungary’s presidency in the first half of the next year. The two countries’ bilateral relations were described as very good.

In the capacity of the National EUSDR Coordinator, Plenković also met with Dirk Ahner, the European Commission’s Regional Policy Director General (DG REGIO). The Croatian delegation included Karlo Gjurašić, State Secretary at the Ministry of Regional Development, Forestry and Water Management, as well as the representatives from other relevant bodies. The meeting discussed the draft of the Danube Strategy Action Plan. The Croatian delegation presented concrete propositions, as well as Croatia’s priorities in transport, energy, environmental protection, tourism, and culture. The meeting also announced further dialogue on the drawing up of the Action Plan and adopting the Danube Strategy at the European Council’s meeting during Hungary’s EU presidency.

State Secretary Plenković then met with Luis Romero Requena, the DG Budget Director General, discussing the process of verifying the Croatian translation of the acquis. The two reached an operative agreement on the further dynamic of proofreading the translations, in light of the fact that the acquis numbers more than 107,000 pages.
