The meeting was very cordial, a friendly talk during which the speakers agreed that both bilateral as well as multilateral relations between the two countries were excellent and concluded that regular visits of high-ranking officials would further strengthen the relations.

They also asserted that there is a strong potential for intensifying the bilateral economic co–operation. Furthermore, they agreed that by becoming a European Union member state, Croatia would become an even more interesting market for Israeli investors.

During the talk on political and security situation in the south-eastern region, Minister Jandroković informed President Peres of the attitude of the Republic of Croatia according to which only a clear and unambiguous Euro-Atlantic perspective guarantees stability and development of the countries in the Europe’s south-east. By its policy, the Republic of Croatia contributes the positive atmosphere in the region and supports all activities which strengthen regional co–operation and establishing good-neighbourly relations, said Minister Jandroković.

He briefed President Peres on the current state of Croatian negotiating process with the European Union and concluded that implementing all the necessary reforms in the Republic of Croatia has a positive dynamics. He added that the technical conclusion of accession negotiations is expected by the end of this year.

There was also mention of Croatia’s participation in peace operations in the Golan Heights and Lebanon as well as our participation in Afghanistan.

Minister Jandroković congratulated President Peres on the membership of the State of Israel in the Organisation for Economic Co–operation and Development (OECD), which was granted last week.
