Ambassador Jašić used this opportunity to also hand the medal of the Order of Danica hrvatska with the face of Marko Marulić, to the Burgenland Croat Martin Prikosović for special efforts in preservation of the Croatian language and identity of Burgenland Croats.

The ceremony was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia, with the presence of the President of the Vienna Provincial Parliament Harry Kopietz and other respectable Austrians.

Former longtime Vienna Mayor Helmut Zilk supported the strengthening of political, economic and cultural relations between Croatia and Austria. He also strongly supported and contributed to Croatia’s gaining independence and will always be remembered for his appearance at the protest rally in August 1991 at St. Stephen square in Vienna, where he expressed his support for Croatia’s independence. He was also very active in helping send humanitarian aid to Croatia during the operation “Susjed u nevolji” (Neighbour in Trouble).

Burgenland Croat Martin Prikosović was handed a medal for special efforts in preservation of the Croatian language and identity of Burgenland Croats, as well as promoting relations and contacts between Burgenland Croats and Croats in Slovakia, Hungary and the Republic of Croatia.
