On this occasion, State Secretary Plenković held a speech on the duration of the European integration process, but also on the efforts Croatia is making on its path to full EU membership. He added that in this respect, the contribution made by Croatian war veterans and victims must not be forgotten. He stressed the importance of implementing reforms and harmonisation with European standards, and expressed confidence that Croatia will also have the possibility of being evaluated for individual achievements. He also mentioned the need to inform Croatian citizens on Croatia’s efforts in striving to EU membership, and on the importance local community play in this process.

When he spoke of neighbourly relations, role of counties in transborder and transnational co–operation and importance of the Danube dimension, State Secretary Plenković stressed the importance of co–operation between countries in the framework of EU Strategy for the Danube Region. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of regional co–operation and, in that context, of the Working Community of Danube Regions, whose members are Vukovarsko-srijemska and Osječko-baranjska County.
