In the talks with the Mayor he discussed the continuation of the project to build the Japan-Croatia House of Friendship, according to the concept design by Penezić&Rogina architects. The Ambassador also visited the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial, and the installation exhibited by Croatian artists Mirjana Vodopija and Kristina Lenart entitled “Sealed Garden”. Also, he launched the initiative to establish partnership between the towns of Tokamachi and Samobor.

The link between Tokamachi and Croatia dates from the 2002 FIFA World Cup, held in Japan and South Korea, when the Croatian footballers chose Tokamachi to be their base. A football field “Croatia” was built to that end, and since then a football tournament entitled the “Croatia Cup” has been held there every year. The cups are made from Samobor crystal and presented to the champions by the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia.
