At the plenary session of the Council of Europe’s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities held in Strasbourg, Head of Croatian delegation Dubravka Šuica was elected by a majority of votes (90 out of 130) for the first vice-president of the House of Local Authorities of the Council of Europe’s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, as well as the first vice-president and member of the Bureau.
At the plenary session of the Council of Europe’s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities held in Strasbourg, Head of Croatian delegation Dubravka Šuica was elected by a majority of votes (90 out of 130) for the first vice-president of the House of Local Authorities of the Council of Europe’s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, as well as the first vice-president and member of the Bureau. In this capacity, the Mayor of the city of Dubrovnik Dubravka Šuica presided over a part of this year’s plenary session, and at the press conference represented the House of Local Authorities of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities. The election of Dubrovnik’s Mayor Dubravka Šuica as the first vice-president of this important body of the Congress is a confirmation of Croatia’s constructive participation in the Council of Europe’s activities.
Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, which consists of the House of Local Authorities and the House of Regional Authorities, represents the voice of Europe’s regions and local units, defending and promoting local and regional democracy, and the exchange of experiences at a local and regional level. The Bureau has 17 members and reaches the decisions regarding the Congress’ activities, such as monitoring elections, choosing reports for the plenary session, and other activities in its field. Dubrovnik’s Mayor Šuica will as the Congress’ first vice-president will replace the president of the House of Local Authorities, Halvdan Kards from Norway, and president of the House of Regional Authorities, Giovano Di Stasi from Italy, not only at the Congress’ regular sessions, but in all other occasions, thus representing all of the EU members.
