Today is exactly 20 years since the historical date on which the Republic of Croatia was admitted to full membership of the United Nations and when Croatian flag was proudly raised in front of the UN's Headquarters along the East River in New York.
Furthermore, admission to the full membership of this global organization also meant the final and full recognition of the Republic of Croatia as a sovereign and an independent member of the international community, equal with any other nation of the world.
During this relatively short period of time, Croatia went through transformation from a nation recipient of the international aid to a donor nation, as it continues to actively contribute to a wide range of activities of the United Nations, such as through its participation in international peacekeeping missions, as well as through membership in the most prestigious UN bodies like Security Council, ECOSOC, Peacebuilding Commission and many others. Croatia progressively expands its engagement in humanitarian and development areas of the UN, as well as in the protection and strengthening of the human rights.
The Republic of Croatia remains constantly devoted to the spirit of the multilateralism and by promoting dialogue and tolerance will continue to contribute to the realization of the values and principles as set out in the Charter of the United Nations.
