The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration hosted November 4th 2009 the initial meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission for NATO. The meeting discussed the political, security and economic aspects of Croatia's NATO membership. It pointed out the positive results in the development of military capacities and opening of new economic possibilities in regard to NATO. The meeting also concluded that Croatia's NATO membership requires a new quality of coordination between the state administration's departments and that the founding of the Commission will contribute to an efficient promotion of Croatia's interests within the Alliance. The Commission was founded based on the Croatian Government's decision from September 22nd 2009 and tasked with analyzing, suggesting and coordinating the activities concerning Croatia's NATO membership and the overall strengthening of the NATO dimension in the functioning of state administration. It consists of representatives from 23 state administration bodies, from ministries and institutes to agencies and offices, while its activities are coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. The initial meeting was led by the Commission's deputy coordinator, State Secretary Pjer šimunovic.
