Third annual „Balkan and Adriatic Oil and Gas Summit,“ October 1st-3rd, Athens

Third annual „Balkan and Adriatic Oil and Gas Summit“ has been held in Athens on October 1st-3rd, as the professional conference dealing with the existing state of affairs and the prospectives regarding the exploration and production of hydrocarbons in the Southeastern Europe, as well as future developments with the aim to ensure energy security in the region. Since in this context the Republic of Croatia was one of the countries in focus of the conference the representatives of the Croatian Hydrocarbon agency, INA and Plinacro participated in the works of the conference. On this occasion the presentations have been delivered by Barbara Dolic, President of the Board of the Croatian Hydrocarbons Agency, Lilit Cota, INA Head of Research Department and Vladimir ?urovic, Plinacro Head of Strategic Development Department. In the first two contributions the emphasis was on the elaboration of the current state of affairs regarding the licencing rounds for exploration and production of hydrocarbons in the Adriatic Sea and mainland Croatia which have been opened this year and are due to expire on November 3rd, 2014 and February 18, 2015, respectively as well as on the recent measures to attract foreign investment in this field in Croatia. In the third contibution the current situation regarding the production, distribution and usage of natural gas in Croatia has been elaborated as well as future developments in this field, especially the plan that the Ionian Adriatic Pipeline (IAP) join the Trans-adriatic pipeline (TAP) in Fiera, Albania. After their presentations the Croatian speakers answered the questions from the audience. A day before the opening of the conference there was a media conference with the participation of Ivan Velimir Starcevic, the Croatian Ambassador in Athens. As the priorities of the Republic of Croatia in the field of energy security he stressed the planned construction of the LNG terminal on the island Krk as the starting point of the South-North Gas Corridor, the connection of the TAP and IAP pipelines and, again, the ongoing licencing rounds for exploration and production of hydrocarbons in the Adriatic Sea and mainland Croatia.
