Mr. Hrvoje Dokoza, Deputy Minister for Environment and Nature Protection at the Informal Council Meeting of EU Environment Ministers

Mr. Hrvoje Dokoza, Deputy Minister for Environment and Nature Protection took part at the Informal Council Meeting of EU Environment Ministers held on 13 & 14 May in Athens. He pointed out that "safeguarding the marine environment in the Mediterranean and limiting the impact of climate change, while simultaneously enabling development of the economy, represent priorities shared by EU Member States and by 15 countries of the Mediterranean. Seas and oceans are vital in maintaining a balance in the climate system and it is our task to preserve them as well as to use their potential for sustainable growth and development. Global challenges must be dealt with jointly and this is the reason Croatia is actively involved in efforts to limit the impact of climate change globally, through reduction of greenhouse gases, without jeopardizing development, growth and competitiveness". Climate change was on the agenda of the meeting, in view of the upcoming UN Conference on Climate change, scheduled to take place in December. It was pointed out that the EU fulfilled its obligations stemming from the Kyoto protocol.
