Jozo Radoš participated at the COSAC meeting

The meeting of the presidents of the parliamentary committees involved in COSAC, conference of committees for European affairs of the national parliaments of the EU member states, has been held in Athens on January 26-27, 2014. It was at the same time the first meeting within the parliamentary framework during the Greek 6-month EU presidency. Jozo Radoš, deputy president of the Croatian Parliament"s committee for European affairs has been representing this committee at the meeting. Main topics of the meeting included the role of the EU institutions in getting closer to the citizens and the presentation of the Greek priorities during the EU presidency. The Vicepresident of the European Commission Maroš šefcovic has stressed the importance of the forthcoming elections for the European Parliament and the need to return the confidence of the European citizens into the EU institutions. The priorities of the Greek presidency have been presented by the Vicepremier of the Greek Government and Minister of Foreign Affairs Evangelos Venizelos. Due to the fact that Italy is succeeding Greece holding the EU presidency in the next half of the year, the two countries have declared 2014 as the „Year of the Mediterranean“. Maritime policies as well as maintaining the effective control over the EU borders, particularly as far as the illegal imigrations in the Mediterranean are concerned, are high among the Greek priorities. The meeting has been concluded by adoption of the statement regarding the developments in Ukraine.
