Croatian delegation at the 6th European summit of regions and cities
6th European summit of regions and cities has been held in Athens on March 7 and 8 organized by the EU Committee of Regions and the Greek region of Attica. It was an important political event with the attendance of almost 1400 participants and an opportunity to discuss the questions of common interest on the eve of the European elections: how to enhance economic growth, how to solve the problem of unemployment, primarily among young generation and how to retun the confidence of citizens into the European institutions. Committee of Regions has adopted the Athens declaration, in which it has clearly stated that local and regional authorities must have bigger role in the implementation of the European Strategy 2020. The Athens declaration contains the reform plan of seven points, asking the new approach from the EU if the main aim of the Strategy - smart, sustainable and inclusive economy - is to be reached by 2020. Second day of the summit involved the panel on the future of Europe, in which the president of the European Commission Manuel Barosso took place as well.
Athens summit was attended by the Croatian delegation, consisting of Vojko Obersnel (mayor of Rijeka, head of delegation), Bruno Hranic (head of municipality Vidovec), Snježana Bužinec (head of municipality Jakovlje), Blanka Glavica-Jecmenica (member of municipal assembly Maruševec), Danijel Marušic (prefect of the Brodsko-posavska county) and Jelena Pavicic-Vukicevic (member of city assembly of Zagreb).
