Ambassador Starcevic in Cyprus met with President Anastasiades and with the Croatian community on the island
Ambassador Ivan Velimir Starcevic visited Cyprus in the two-day business trip where he met with Croatian citizens and with their business partners in Limassol on 30 September. Then the Ambassador participated at the reception organized in Nicosia by the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades on the occasion of Cyprus Independence Day on 1 October. In the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, a reception was held for members of the diplomatic corps to mark the anniversary of independence from Britain what happened in 1960. Besides the reception, military parade was also organized.
The second part of the official visit to Cyprus was dedicated to strengthen economic and cultural contacts. In this regard, a meeting with Croatian citizens and their business partners was held in Limassol with a focus on the sectors of shipping and tourism, in which the vast majority of Croatian citizens living in Cyprus are employed. The Ambassador also met with the Deputy Director of the Cyprus Chamber of Shipping Alexandros Josephides to discuss the further strengthening of cooperation in the shipbuilding following previously achieved successful cooperation with the Cypriot shipping companies with the Croatian shipyard Uljanik. Furthermore, ahead of a visit to Cyprus, Croatian media reported that Brodosplit began shipping 28 housing containers for a company registered in Cyprus.
The potential for further cooperation also exist in the field of culture, particularly between the City of Paphos, which was chosen as European Capital of Culture for 2017, and the City of Rijeka which has been chosen to host the same event in 2020.
Member of the diplomatic staff of the Embassy Lena Ružic Turk accompanied Ambassador Starcevic during his business trip to Cyprus.
