President of the Republic of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic attended the funeral of the former Israeli President and Prime Minister Shimon Peres in Jerusalem. A great number of world leaders attended the funeral – presidents of state, of government and parliament, many ministers and foromer officials, among them president of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas and the chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat. “Such a large number of statesmen and church dignitaries, from the current and a former US President, the US Secretary of State and kings, to the Palestinian President Abbas prove how much Israel is valued and how much Shimon Peres is valued as a statesman,” emphasized President Grabar-Kitarovic, adding that Peres was a man from whom we should learn. At the funeral, Presidents Obama and Clinton, Israeli leaders, but also members of Peres’s family spoke about him. “His family spoke about his character, about how simple, accessible he was and how much he cared about his family, his State, but also peace in the Middle East and global relations in general,” said President Grabar-Kitarovic after the funeral of Shimon Peres in Jerusalem.
