Marking the 22nd anniversary of Israeli Prime Minister Rabin’s assassination

On 1 November 2017, a special plenary sitting of the Knesset was held to mark the 22nd anniversary of the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin, Israeli Prime Minister and the Oslo Accords co-creator. As the Prime Minister, Rabin was serving two terms in office, 1974 -1977 and 1992 until his assassination on 4 November 1995. For his role in the creation of the Oslo Accords, Rabin was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994, along with the Israeli President Shimon Peres and the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat. The session was held in the presence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Reuven Rivlin, Supreme Court President Esther Hayut, Bank of Israel Governor Karnit Flug and opposition leader Isaac Herzog. In his speech, Prime Minister Netanyahu noted Rabin’s remarkable efforts for the benefit of the State of Israel and called for national reconciliation and unity in Israel. The opposition leader Herzog also addressed the audience.
