Croatian teachers and educational experts at a teacher-training seminar on Holocaust in Yad Vashem

From 4 to 10 July 2019, a group of 25 Croatian teachers and educators from various educational institutions participate at the teacher-training seminar on Holocaust at the Yad Vashem - the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre. The seminar for Croatian teachers and educators, based on the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia, the Education and Training Agency of the Republic of Croatia and Yad Vashem, has been held on a regular basis since 2006, with the participation of around 300 teachers and experts so far. The seminar deals with Holocaust and anti-Semitism from multiple perspectives (history, art, personal stories) as well as with various approaches to teaching about this topic in elementary and high schools. The seminar began with opening remarks by Ambassador Vesela Mrden Korac and the Mrs. Richelle Budd Caplan, Director of the European Department of the International School for Holocaust Studies. The Ambassador emphasized the importance that Croatia attaches to the education about the Holocaust, the fight against anti-Semitism and the protection and promotion of human rights of minorities. Moreover, the bilateral co-operation with the Yad Vashem represents a platform for a wider European cooperation, and in that context a seminar on Holocaust teaching, remembrance and Holocaust research in co-operation with Yad Vashem will be held in Croatia during the Croatian Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2020.
