Croatian Embassy symbolically helps planting new trees in Haifa on the occasion of Tu Bishvat

Around this time of year, by the Jewish tradition a new year of the trees - Tu Bishvat - is celebrated. On that occasion, it is a custom to plant new trees in Israel. As part of this tradition, under the patronage of the President of Israel Reuven Rivlin, on 9 February 2017 the KKL - Jewish National Fund and the AJC - Global Jewish Advocacy organized a tree planting event in Haifa under the motto “By planting trees we rebuild hope”. Haifa’s forest areas were severely damaged by the November 2016 fires. Haifa is an example of coexistence between Jews and Arabs in Israel. The event was attended by the mayor of Haifa Yona Yahav and children from many elementary and high schools. Croatian fire fighters helped in battling the fires especially in and around Haifa. On behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Israel, Tina Krce, chargée d"affaires a.i. planted a new tree.
