Acknowledgment for International Cooperation, Faculty of Medicine Zagreb

At the commemorative celebration of the 102nd anniversary of the Zagreb Faculty of Medicine on 17 December 2019 in Zagreb, prof. Marijan Klarica, PhD, Dean of the Zagreb Faculty of Medicine, presented the Certificate of Appreciation for the outstanding contribution in the field of international cooperation to the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the State of Israel, MSc Vesela Mrden Korac, for diplomatic support in solving the issue of equality or recognition of diplomas of the Zagreb Faculty of Medicine in the State of Israel. The Ambassador thanked on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs stating that the initial decision of the Israeli Ministry of Health in early 2019 was not directed against Croatia or the Zagreb Faculty of Medicine, but against the growing number of medical colleges in the world, who are looking to enroll an increasing number of foreign students, including Israeli ones, at the expense of educational standards. Such a decision could consequently jeopardize all future and past diplomas of Israeli and other students of the Zagreb Faculty of Medicine in the State of Israel. With the coordinated effort of the Office for International Cooperation of the Faculty of Medicine of Zagreb and the Ministries of Science, Health and Foreign and European Affairs as well as the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Tel Aviv, exemption for the diplomas of the Faculty of Medicine Zagreb was already made in June 2019. This prevented the possible loss of current academic year for Israeli students at the Zagreb Faculty of Medicine and facilitated long-term cooperation. The Ambassador Mrden Korac conveyed the message of the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Mr. Grlic Radman, assuring that the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Tel Aviv, as well as the diplomatic network of the Ministry remain available for future cooperation.
