Croatian Ambassador to Canada Vesela Mrden Korac handed 14th November 2005 in Ottawa her credentials to Governor General of Canada Michaëlle Jean, thereby officially assuming the duty of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Croatia to Canada.

In a friendly and open talk, Ambassador Mrden Korac informed Governor General Jean about the Croatian Government's efforts in implementing the refugee return program, i. e. ensuring the conditions for a sustainable return, that primarily include solving the employment issues and mine clearance in the war-stricken areas.
Ambassador Mrden Korac reported on the full co-operation with the ICTY, justice reforms and meeting the political criteria based on which the decision to open the negotiations with the EU was reached in the first place. Ambassador Mrden Korac thanked Governor General Jean for Canada's engagement in mine action in Croatia and the support in joining NATO.
Ambassador Mrden Korac relayed the greetings by Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and expressed hope for a highest level meeting to be organised in the near future.
