The Embassy of the Republic of Croatia to the Republic of South Africa organized concerts of Croatian singer Paula Jusic in Johannesburg on November 11 and in Pretoria on November 12, 2018.
The concert titled "Pjesma i ja," held at the Croatian Catholic Mission of St. Jerome in Johannesburg, was attended by some 80 members of the Croatian emigrant community, while the concert and reception at The African Pride Café, located within the Pretoria Botanical Gardens, was attended by more than 130 guests, that included ambassadors and members of the South African Diplomatic Corps, representatives of the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), numerous embassies’ staff members and members of the Croatian community from Pretoria.
Paula Jusic, renowned for her great voice, together with her life and musical partner, ?elo Jusic Jr., performed some of the most famous Croatian songs, as well as a repertoire of all-time favorite international hits in English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and Russian language. The concert in Johannesburg was extremely emotional for the Croatian community, while the impressive concert in Pretoria ended with public ovations.
During her long-lasting career, Paula Jusic has performed in many countries around the world, but this was her first performance in Africa. The audience was delighted, and the concerts, different in musical styles, thanks to Paul"s unique voice, sensuality and temperament, were truly a mix of musical and emotional experience. In addition to popular music, at the concert in Pretoria, Paula performed traditional music songs from different parts of the world, including chansons, sevdalinke and ballads, that all together created a beautiful and emotional story.
The concerts were made possible with a generous financial support of the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, approved for projects of cultural promotion, public diplomacy and international recognition of the Republic of Croatia and funds of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Pretoria.
