Literary evening and poetry of Danijel Dragojević
Mons. Dario Paviša, secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature in the Republic of South Africa, is also currently pastorally responsible for the Croatian community of St. Jerome in Johannesburg. Among the guests was the new apostolic nuncio in SA, H.E. Henryk M. Jagodzinski, who, thanks to his previous mandates in the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, understands and speaks the Croatian language very well.
Mr. Ante Cicvarić, the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia in South Africa, greeted about 50 gathered guests, stressing how nice it is that so far from the homeland we have the opportunity to hear the Croatian word and enjoy the verses of the inspiring Croatian poet, Danijelo Dragojević. Poet, essayist, prose writer, screenwriter, and radio editor, Danijel Dragojević died on February 19. 2024 in Zagreb at the age of ninety-one and left behind a numerous poetic legacy that many consider outstanding examples of modern Croatian written word and art.
Poems by Danijel Dragojević - Surface, Crossed, And Then, Drawn Door, Recognition and others were read by Dr. Nena Vidjak, Dalibor Skalić, and Danijela Dragojević Tasovac, with the musical accompaniment of Jasmine Žuvela, piano, who chose and performed the music the background to Dragojević's lyrics - from Arsen Dedić and his poem Ballad of Transience, through Erik Satie, Rachmaninov to Zdenko Runjić and his poem Galeb. At the end of the evening, the guests had the opportunity to treat themselves to the specialties of Croatian cuisine with an appropriate gathering.
