Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusic met 20 March 2012 in Washington with members of the Croatian congressional caucus and representatives of the Croatian American community.
The meeting was organized as part of the minister's working visit to the U.S. and was attended by Congressmen Elton Gallegly and Dennis Kucinich, President of the National Federation of Croatian Americans Bill Vergot and Vice-President Zvonko Labas, President of the Croatian Fraternal Union Bernard Luketich and Vice-President Edward Pazo, lobbyist Joe Foley and Senator Mark Begich.
Pusic invited them to continue investing in Croatia, pointing out that the Croatian government intended to ensure a favourable investment environment for all, including Croatian emigrants.
Gallegly, Kucinich and Begich promised their assistance in lifting visa requirements for Croatian citizens travelling to the U.S., adding that the problem was a high rate of rejected applications, of 6.3 per cent as against the allowed 3 per cent. They pointed out that the Congress was about to pass a new legislation by which countries could be evaluated individually.
At the end of the meeting, Pusic was handed a formal excerpt from the Congress' records on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Croatia's independence.
