Reception at the Embassy of Poland

On the occasion of the signing of Croatia's EU Accession Treaty in Brussels, the Embassies of Poland, Croatia and the EU Delegation in the U.S. hosted a celebratory reception on 9 December 2011 at the Embassy of Poland in Washington, DC.

On the occasion of the signing of Croatia's EU Accession Treaty in Brussels, the Embassies of Poland, Croatia and the EU Delegation in the U.S. hosted a celebratory reception on 9 December 2011 at the Embassy of Poland in Washington, DC. The reception gathered ambassadors and deputy chiefs of mission from all 27 EU member states, representatives from the U.S. State Department and other government Departments, as well as representatives from various think-tank organizations in DC. At the beginning of the reception, a video in which Polish citizens congratulate Croatian citizens on the signing of the EU Accession Treaty was shown, followed by a promotional film of the Croatian Tourist Board “Ode to Joy”. Remarks were delivered by Polish Ambassador Robert Kupiecki, Croatian Chargé d'Affaires Vice Skracic, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation François Rivasseau and Co-Chairman of Croatia Congressional Caucus Representative Dennis J. Kucinich (D-Ohio). In their remarks Ambassador Kupiecki and Deputy Head of the EU Delegation Rivasseau congratulated Croatia and emphasized that December 9 represents a great day not only for Croatia, but also for the European Union. Moreover, they underlined that the signing of Croatia's EU Accession Treaty is a good sign for other countries in the region, with respect to their individual paths to European integration. The Deputy Head of the EU Delegation Rivasseau seized the moment to talk about the conclusions of the European Council meeting, primarily regarding the economic crisis. Representative Kucinich expressed his satisfaction of Croatia's signing the EU Accession Treaty, and also talked about the importance of the US-EU partnership. Croatian Chargé d'Affaires Skracic underscored that Croatia's signing of the EU Accession Treaty represents an historic day for Croatia, recalling Croatia's trajectory from its regained statehood to the signing the EU Accession Treaty. He thanked the United States for their support during the accession negotiations, as well as Hungary and Poland, whose states presided over the EU in 2011, including during the final stage of Croatia's accession negotiations with the EU.
