Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Croatia, H. E. Mr. Gordan Jandrokovic visited the USA from 30 June to 2 July 2008.
On this occasion Minister Jandrokovic met on Tuesday, 1 July, with US State Secretary Condoleezza Rice, Deputy Defense Minister Gordon England and Co-Chairman of the Congressional caucus Congressman George Radanovich.
In their talks, Minister Jandrokovic, State Secretary Rice and other US officials assessed relations between Croatia and the US as partnerly and friendly, with high-level collaboration in promoting common values and interests of the two countries. Minister Jandrokovic said Croatia appreciated cooperation with the US on bilateral and multilateral levels within the framework of the NATO and the UN Security Council. Thereby he thanked for continuous US support to Croatia's NATO membership, which is among Croatia's main foreign political goals. He expressed conviction that the ratification procedure of the access protocol by the NATO members would be conducted as soon as possible. The two sides also discussed visa regime and double taxation issues.
Talking about the situation in SE Europe, the collocutors agreed European perspective of the countries in the region was the best way to achieving permanent stability and peace in this part of Europe. In this regard Minister Jandrokovic said Croatia was ready to continue developing good neighborly relations with the countries of the region, based on mutual respect and equality. The situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina was also among topics, and Minister Jandrokovic emphasized Croatia supported the solutions that ensure equal rights for all three constituent peoples.
During his stay in Washington Minister Jandrokovic held a lecture at German Marshall Fund titled „Trans-Atlantic Community and Security in SEE“.
On Wednesday, 2 July 2008, Minister Jandrokovic met with President's Advisor for national security Stephan Hadley.
Upon his arrival to the US, 30 June, Minister Jandrokovic, met with prominent representatives of the Croatian community thanking them for their strong support to Croatia on her way to independence, and in developing partnerly and friendly relations with the US at all levels.
