General Cacic added to the Hall of Fame in Washington

State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Pjer Simunovic attended, as part of his visit to Washington, the ceremony of listing the deceased Major General Gordan Cacic in the Hall of Fame of international students at the U.S. National Defense University in Washington.

State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Pjer Simunovic attended, as part of his visit to Washington, the ceremony of listing the deceased Major General Gordan Cacic in the Hall of Fame of international students at the U.S. National Defense University in Washington. Besides the MOD Sate Secretary Simunovic, the ceremony were also attended by Croatian Ambassador to NATO, Igor Pokaz, Deputy Ambassador to the U.S. Vice Skracic, Croatian military attaché in the U.S. and Canada Brigadier General Mate Padjen, President of the Association of War Volunteers Tom Kacinari, and numerous friends of the passed General Cacic from Croatia and the United States. This recognition is awarded to the most successful participants in the world of this prestigious educational institution, who after leaving the school at the University were placed in top positions within the defence system. The late Major General Cacic was a student of the School of the National Security of the said University during 2000-2001, and was a first Croat who was awarded this honourable award. The award was received by his wife Vesna Cacic. After receiving the recognition Mrs. Cacic addressed the present and thanked everyone who participated in the implementation of this event. During his visit to Washington MOD State Secretary Simunovic met on Friday, April 29, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South Eastern Europe Thomas Countryman. They discussed the possibility of wider regional cooperation regarding the development of joint defence capabilities, Croatian contribution to the mission in Afghanistan, particularly the Croatian Command over the Military Police School in Kabul, with emphasis on excellent cooperation with partners from the region participating in this project. They also talked about U.S. support for Croatia's EU joining. Later on, MOD State Secretary Simunovic met the Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Daniel Feldman, during which they discussed the current contribution of Croatia to Afghanistan and the implementation of transition strategies towards the development of Afghanistan's own capabilities. Both sides expressed great importance of development of training capabilities in Afghanistan. The meetings were also attended by Croatian Ambassador to the U.S. Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic, Croatian military attaché in the U.S. and Canada Brigadier General Mate Padjen, Assistant military attaché Major Robert Katic, and the Minister Counsellor at the Embassy in Washington Dario Mihelin.
