Embassy of Croatia in Washington commends the Solidarity Sabbath initiative and the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights and Justice for their work to combat anti-Semitism and intolerance, and to promote freedom of conscience and belief in the world. Croatia is a proud member of the group of nations that continuously educate its citizens on the history of Holocaust and fights anti-Semitism as a part of the Croatian Government’s overall agenda of promotion of human and minority rights in all of their aspects, including religious freedoms. Croatian Government works to combat anti-Semitism both domestically through its information and educational programs as well as internationally together with Yad Vashem and Memorial de la Shoah in Paris. Government funded seminar on Holocaust that is held every year on the Holocaust Remembrance Day has so far seen 700 teachers attend it, and education about the Holocaust is a part of the curriculum in Croatian educational system from pre-school to the high school level. Since the year 2006 Memorial Center in Jasenovac has been brought up to the international standards and now, in addition to its permanent exhibit, the center hosts specialized activities and educational programs for professional and general public. Modern expressions of anti-Semitism, such as attacks on synagogues, community halls and individual Jews, are in focus of Croatian Government that is taking necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of Croatia’s Jewish Community.
