Croatian Art on the Horizon Presentation

Within the creativeCroatia Festival, the freelance curator and art historian Vanja Žanko with her very insightful lecture entitled “Croatian Art on the Horizon”, that took place at the Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery in London, introduced contemporary Croatian art. In his opening remark, Ambassador Dr Ivan Grdešic, emphasized that the main goal of the Festival, as well as of the lecture, is to present contemporary Croatian scene and young talented artists to the British public. The presentation focused on interesting art practices developed by Croatian artists who used geopolitical context as an inspiration. Among the presented artists were: Lovro Artukovic, Igor Eškinja, Ivan Fijolic, Ivana Franke, David Maljkovic, Oko Okato, Renata Poljak, Sofija Silvia, Marko Tadic, Tarwuk/Bruno Pogacnik, Ivana Vukšic, Zlatan Vehabovic i Žižic/Kožul. Žanko also explored the concept of creating images, its potential and possibilities of this particular media as well as questioned the relationship between the media and an observer.
