"A Tribute to Milka Trnina", paintings by Ljerka Njerš"A Tribute to Milka Trnina", paintings by Ljerka Njerš The exhibition of paintings by Ljerka Njerš „A Tribute to Milka Trnina“, opened at the Croatian Embassy in London on 9th October 2006. Ljerka Njerš was inspired for this exhibition by the costumes of the famous opera singer Milka Trnina, which are on permanent display at the Zagreb City Museum. Ljerka Njerš's paintings, full of rich and vibrant colours, exude a theatrical atmosphere. The artist uses a technique she learnt in England. The clay monotypes are one-off works that artist paints on a wet clay plate. She runs off her monotypes on to the paper and finishes them with drawings in Indian ink and paint. The exhibition was opened by Croatian Ambassador Mr Joško Paro, at a private view attended by many British and Croatian guests. 17.10.2006. | Press releases

Milka Ternina and The Royal Opera HouseMILKA TRNINA AND THE ROYAL OPERA HOUSE 18th September – 20th January 2006 The exhibition on life and career of the Croatian soprano Milka Ternina, an international star at the turn of the twentieth century, has opened at the Royal Opera House as a result of co-operation between The Royal Opera House and the Zagreb City Museum. Milka Ternina made a great contribution to the music scene of her time, she was famous and feted both in Europe and America. This exhibition, drawn from the Milka Ternina Bequest of the Zagreb City Museum, celebrates her life and career 100 years after her last performances at the Royal Opera House, where she achieved, perhaps, some of her greatest triumphs. 06.10.2006. | Press releases

Croatia in Light and ColourCROATIA IN LIGHT AND COLOUR Postcards from Croatia 1898-1921 An exhibition of postcards from Croatia, from the collections of the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb, will be opened at the Croatian Embassy in London on 11th July. The exhibition consists of 60 frames (70x50cm), each containing an original postcard showing images of the Croatian towns from 1900. Each frame also contains a photo blow up of the same image, made by the Gallery Badrov who helped put together the exhibition. A particular emphasis has been put on the beginnings of tourist industry in Croatia. In addition to major tourist destinations like Opatija and Dubrovnik, there are also images of spas in Lipik, Daruvar, Topusko. 04.07.2006. | Press releases

Vlaho Bukovac Exhibition at BonhamsExhibition "Searching for Blaise - Vlaho Bukovac (1855-1922) and his Northern Patrons" opened at Bonham's in London After Liverpool and Harrogate, the exhibition "Vlaho Bukovac and his Northern Patrons", opened at Bonham's in London, in the central gallery of this prestigious auction house at 101 New Bond Street. Adamic''s Era 1780-1830BOOK PRESENTATIONS HELD AT THE CROATIAN EMBASSY: ADAMIC'S ERA 1780 - 1830 AND THE BRITISH NAVY, RIJEKA AND ADAMIC, BY MALCOLM SCOTT HARDY Croatian Embassy in London and the British-Croatian Society jointly organised a literary evening on Wednesday, 15th March 2006, to launch a couple of books dealing with the subject of British-Croatian links: "Adamic's Era 1780 - 1830" and "The British Navy, Rijeka and Adamic" by Malcolm Scott Hardy. Mr Ervin Dubrovic, spoke about the book "Adamic's Era 1780 - 1830": Rijeka's Merchant in a time of Great Changes" both as its editor and as the Director of the Museum of the City of Rijeka, the publisher of the book. He was followed by a British historian Malcom Scott Hardy, who spoke about his publication "The British Navy, Rijeka and A.L. Adamic: War and Trade in the Adriatic 1800 -25." Hardy's research gives the most thorough and reliable insight into relations between the Croatian regions and Great Britain during the "time of great changes" and Napoleonic wars. In addition to Croatian edition of the book, a special edition in English was presented as well: "The British Navy, Rijeka and A.L. Concert Aestas Musica at St George''s ChurchThe international ensemble of baroque music Aestas Musica held concert at St. George's Church in London, Friday, 20th January 2006 The International Summer School of Baroque Music and Dance and the Croatian Embassy in London organised a concert of baroque music by various composers, including a sonata written by the Istrian baroque composer Gabriel Usper. Exhibition of paintings by Vlaho Bukovac opened in HarrogateExhibition " Searching for Blaise: Vlaho Bukovac (1855-1922) and his Northern Patrons", Mercer Art Gallery, opened in Harrogate, 19th January 2006 "Fox me pozvao u goste. U Harrogateu nas docekaše uprav kraljevski. Nikad takovo bogatstvo vidio nijesam. ..." This is how in his autobiography "My Life", Vlaho Bukovac described his stay in Harrogate. Vlaho Bukovac and his Northern Partners, Mercer Gallery, Harrogate, 14th January until 19th March 2006Searching for Blaise: Vlaho Bukovac (1855-1922) and his Northern Patrons Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate, 14 January to 19 March 2006 An exhibition at the Mercer Art Gallery sets out to re-discover this Croatian artist for English audiences, and to promote the search for some of his missing masterpieces. Blaise Bukovac was a Croatian painter of grand historical scenes, great Victorian businessmen and Pre-Raphaelite style nudes.
