Ambassador Dr. Damir Kušen visited on 3 June 2010 BioCenter Finland, the national umbrella organization that coordinates nine leading biotechnology research centers in Finland. Director of Biocenter Finland Prof. Eero Vuorio introduced him to the functioning, organization, priorities and strategic development plan of the Finnish biotechnology research network, and informed about the connection between scientific research centers and the Finnish industry and manufacturing.
Ambassador Kušen briefly introduced the Croatian institutes in the field of biotechnology and presented the concrete proposals presented by several research groups of the Institute Ruder Boskovic (IRB) to strengthen cooperation in that area. On the same day Dr. Kušen visited "Viikate Campus' multidisciplinary research complex for life-sciences at the University of Helsinki. The campus operates eight centers of excellence. On meeting with Professor Mart Saarmom from the Institute of Biotechnology, possible modalities for strengthening the Croatian-Finnish cooperation were discussed.
