Croatian Prime Minister Dr Ivo Sanader visited Ireland on 09 October 2008. During his visit, he met with An Taoiseach Mr Brian Cowen TD, President of Ireland Ms Mary McAleese and Ceann Comhairle Mr John O'Donoghue TD.
Croatian Prime Minister Dr Ivo Sanader visited Ireland on 09 October 2008. During his visit, he met with An Taoiseach Mr Brian Cowen TD, President of Ireland Ms Mary McAleese and Ceann Comhairle Mr John O'Donoghue TD.
The main focus of the visit was the European Union, Croatia's accession negotiations, as well as the Lisbon Treaty. The Taoiseach assured Prime Minister Sanader of Ireland's full support for Croatian membership of the European Union and commended Croatia for the significant reforms that have been implemented so far. He also assured Prime Minister Sanader that enlargement had not been an issue in the Irish referendum campaign.
Prime Minister Sanader expressed hope that the two countries would work simultaneously and solve and that Ireland would complete its part of the work by the time Croatia had completed accession negotiations. The visit has further strengthened excellent bilateral relations between Croatia and Ireland.
