The National Famine Commemoration took place on Saturday 12 May 2018 at the University College, Cork. His Excellency President Michael D Higgins led the ceremony, which was hosted by Tánaiste and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Simon Coveney on behalf of the Government of Ireland. The President laid a wreath on behalf of the people of Ireland in remembrance of those who died during the Famine. Wreaths were also laid by the members of the Diplomatic Corps. First Secretary Ms Dubravka Popic laid a wreath on behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Ireland.
