Following the introduction by Lorraine Keane of TV3, the Croatian Ambassador to Ireland Dr Nenad Prelog opened the exhibition "in situ" by Croatian painter Josip Lizatovic at Dublin´s Blue Leaf Gallery.
The atmosphere at the opening was marked by the performance of Renaissance music by St. Mark´s Soloists from Zagreb, as well as by the Croatian wines and food offered. This is the first solo-exhibition by Josip Lizatovic in Ireland, which has 40 of his recent works on show. The rich world of his work is a combination of the real and the imaginary, the figurative and the abstract.
Lizatovic graduated from the Academy of Arts in Zagreb. After his stay in Sweden, where he worked in the marketing design field, he specialised in jewellery design at the City of London Polytechnic. He moved to Dublin in 1991, where he was lecturing at the Institute for Art, Design and Technology in Dun Laoghaire. He is back in London since 1998, where he is focusing on his painting work.
The exhibition opening attracted a lot of interest from the Dublin audience and will be opened until 21 May 2004. The opening was attended by the Ceann Comhairle Dr Rory O´Hanlon, the ambassadors of Italy, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Argentina, as well as other representatives of the diplomatic choir and Dublin cultural milieu.
