Lecture by Governor Honohan - ICBA

The fifth annual lecture “Ante Cicin-šain” was held on Tuesday, 28 September 2010 at the Central Bank of Ireland in Dublin. Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland Prof Patrick Honohan delivered a lecture entitled “Eurozone Membership and Bank Stability”, with a response by Chief Advisor to the Governor of the Croatian National Bank, Dr Neven Mates.

The fifth annual lecture “Ante Cicin-šain” was held on Tuesday, 28 September 2010 at the Central Bank of Ireland in Dublin. Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland Prof Patrick Honohan delivered a lecture entitled “Eurozone Membership and Bank Stability”, with a response by Chief Advisor to the Governor of the Croatian National Bank, Dr Neven Mates. The lecure was attended by Croatian Ambassador to Ireland Mr Veselko Grubišic, Honorary Consul and President of the Irish-Croatian Business Association Mr Gerard Danaher, spouse of late Ante Cicin-šain Mrs Vesna Cicin-šain, representatives of the Croatian National Bank and the Irish-Croatian Business Association, ambassadors accredited to Ireland, as well as representatives of the business community and banks in Ireland. Prof. Honohan has been the Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland for the past year, and had previously held high positions at the World Bank and lectured at Ireland's most prestigious university, Trinity College Dublin. His lecture focused on Ireland's experiences as a member of the Eurozone and the current situation in Ireland's banking sector. The “Ante Cicin-šain” lectures are held in turns in Zagreb and Dublin, and are named after the first governor of the Croatian National Bank and first Croatian Ambassador to Ireland. They were launched by the Irish-Croatian Business Association, which organized this year's lecture in co-operation with the Central Bank of Ireland. The Croatian Embassy in Ireland supports the activities of the Irish-Croatian Business Association, as well as the organizing of the annual lectures. In regard to the current economic situation in Ireland and Croatia, as well as Croatia's future EU membership, this lecture was intended to further enhance the existing contacts between Croatia and Ireland, as well as the development of economic cooperation.
