On the occasion of celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Membership of the Republic of Croatia in the European Union, on Thursday, May 25, 2023, in the church of St Mary's Haddington Road in Dublin, a concert was held by the musical duo Sebastijan Sarapa on clarinet and Franjo Bilić on harpsichord.
The concert was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Ireland in cooperation with the Croatian Catholic Mission in Dublin with the financial support of the Sector for Public and Cultural Diplomacy, Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia.
Before the concert, Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia in Ireland, Davor Vidiš greeted the representatives of the diplomatic corps, Croatian emigrants and other guests. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of preserving European values through strengthening the rule of law and democracy and guaranteeing equality. He additionally emphasized that EU membership is the driver of Croatia's economic development, and with its continuous activity and progress - the presidency of the Council of the EU, entry into the Eurozone and Schengen, Croatia is an integral part of the European family.
As part of the concert, Croatian musicians Sebastijan Sarapa and Franjo Bilić performed, among others, works by Antun Luka Sorkočević, Ivan Mana Jarnović, Burke Thumoth and Johann Baptist Vanhal. Sarapa and Bilić belong to the generation of young Croatian musicians, and with their work they revive lesser-known works of Croatian and European musical heritage from the 17th and 18th centuries.
After the concert, a reception was held in the social rooms of the church of St. Mary's Haddington Road in Dublin.
