Ambassador Davor Vidiš meets with students from Deansrath Community College representing Croatia at the EU Model Council debate
The Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Ireland, Davor Vidiš, received students from Deansrath Community College for the purpose of preparing for their participation in the EU Model Council debate, in which they will represent the Republic of Croatia.
The EU Model Council Debate is a project implemented by the European Commission Representation in Ireland in cooperation with the embassies of the EU Member States and secondary schools in Dublin. Every year, a debate topic is chosen, and secondary school students represent EU countries and prepare their positions with the support of the Embassy. This year, the debate topic is "Protecting Young people Online", and the winning team will be invited to travel to Strasbourg in October 2025 to participate in the Euroscola project of the European Parliament, where they can become MEPs for a day.
Mr. Vidiš introduced the students to the measures that the Government of the Republic of Croatia is implementing to protect young people and children online, and discussed with the students threats on the Internet such as fake news and disinformation. In addition, he presented to them the path of the Republic of Croatia towards full EU membership and helped them define which approach to take in the debate when representing Croatian interests.
The debate will take place on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Dublin Castle, and the Embassy wishes Aaron, Jake, Emily, and Eoin the best of luck.
