During his stay in Madrid, Grlić Radman met with the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares.

The official visit confirms the continuity and dynamic nature of bilateral cooperation.

The most recent official visit by the Croatian foreign minister to Spain took place in May 2021.

On this occasion, the two ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the two ministries of foreign affairs, thereby establishing a more structured framework for regular dialogue and coordination of positions on key European and international issues.

The discussions placed particular emphasis on cooperation in the Mediterranean region, highlighting the importance of the MED9 format and joint efforts concerning the Mediterranean as an area of special strategic interest. Current European issues were also addressed, including European security, economic resilience and European Union enlargement. Special emphasis was placed on the need to preserve the credibility and strategic dimension of the enlargement process, including the situation in the Western Balkans, in particular the necessity of ensuring equality for Croats as one of the three constituent peoples.

As part of the visit, Grlić Radman met with the Apostolic Nuncio, H.E. Mons. Piero Pioppo, honorary consuls of the Republic of Croatia, and distinguished representatives of the Croatian community in the Kingdom of Spain. He also visited the Prado Museum, where he viewed works by the Croatian Renaissance miniaturist Giulio Clovio, further affirming the close cultural and historical ties between the Republic of Croatia and the Kingdom of Spain.
