Minister Grlić Radman attends FAC
At the meeting, ministers of the Council of the European Union, marking the fourth anniversary of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, reaffirmed the continuation of strong political, security and sanctions-related support to Ukraine. Discussions also addressed measures to counter Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet.”
Grlić Radman underlined that Croatia will continue to provide strong support to Ukraine and to increase pressure on Russia. “We discussed the adoption of the twentieth package of sanctions against Russia, as well as a EUR 90 billion loan to Ukraine. These topics will be discussed tomorrow at the General Affairs Council,” the minister stated, announcing that, together with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, he will visit Kyiv on the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, thereby expressing symbolic support for the Ukrainian people.
In Brussels, ministers also discussed the situation in the Middle East, with a particular focus on Gaza and the West Bank, as well as Iran and Syria. Regarding Iran, the need to maintain pressure while keeping communication channels open was emphasized, alongside the European Union’s readiness to engage in the event of diplomatic progress on the nuclear issue. “The European Union seeks de-escalation of tensions in Iran and open diplomatic channels,” Grlić Radman stressed in a statement to the media. With regard to Syria, support was reaffirmed for the country’s stabilization, the fight against Daesh, and an inclusive transitional process.
During a working breakfast dedicated to FIMI (“Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference”), discussions focused on how the EU is strengthening measures to counter foreign information manipulation through enhanced analysis and early warning mechanisms, a reinforced legislative framework for digital platforms, greater societal resilience, and cooperation with international partners.
