Croatia, Denmark committed to strengthening European security, support for Ukraine, economic ties
Grlić Radman expressed satisfaction with the completion of this joint infrastructure project, which will give new impetus to the Port of Rijeka and establish another important transport route from the northern Adriatic to central and northern Europe. The partnership in this project elevates bilateral cooperation between Croatia and Denmark to a new level and creates conditions for further strengthening of economic relations. The rise in Danish investment in Croatia, particularly in “greenfield” projects, was also positively assessed, while an increasing number of direct air connections is further facilitating business ties between Croatian and Danish entrepreneurs.
In the area of political relations, both sides reaffirmed the strong alignment of their foreign policy positions. Firm and continuous support for Ukraine remains a cornerstone of both Croatia’s and Denmark’s foreign policies. The ministers exchanged views on the security challenges facing Europe, with special emphasis on hybrid threats and the protection of critical infrastructure. Grlić Radman expressed solidarity and support for Denmark in light of recent drone incidents over Danish airports.
“Given the recent drone incidents at Danish airports, I expressed solidarity and support, as such threats endanger not only individual states but the entire EU,” the minister stated, adding that Croatia stands ready to contribute to concrete projects, given that it already produces more than 200,000 small drones. He also highlighted Croatia’s participation, alongside Latvia and the Netherlands, in leading the Drones and Counter-Drones initiative within the Defence Readiness Roadmap 2030.
Croatia and Denmark recognize the importance of promoting the European Union’s enlargement policy as a driver of long-term European stability and economic growth. Both countries are aware of the need to preserve stability in the Western Balkans and of the risks posed by malign external influences. In this context, they emphasized the need for reforms and the full fulfilment of criteria required for EU membership.
At a joint press conference with his Danish counterpart, Grlić Radman reiterated that Bosnia and Herzegovina remains one of the key priorities of the Croatian Government, and that Croatia will continue to advocate for its European path - particularly through reform of the Election Law to ensure full equality and legitimate representation of the three constituent peoples. He underlined the important role of Croats as the smallest constituent people, yet the most vocal advocates of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
