State Secretary for Political Affairs Frano Matušić participated in the eighth edition of the Paris Peace Forum, held in Paris on 29-30 October under the theme New Coalitions for Peace, People and the Planet. The Forum primarily focused on discussions about the root causes of contemporary conflicts around the world, the necessity of development cooperation, and ways to mitigate the negative impacts of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

As part of the Forum, two high-level international conferences were held with the participation of Matušić: the High-Level International Conference on Information Integrity and Media Independence and the Conference in Support of Peace and Prosperity in the Great Lakes Region of Africa.

In his address at the conference dedicated to information integrity and media independence, the state secretary emphasized that the Republic of Croatia had been a strong advocate for the adoption of the European Media Freedom Act. He also reaffirmed that Croatia will continue, within its national legislation, to pursue policies, measures, and activities aimed at safeguarding and promoting professional journalism and independent media.

During the conference in support of peace and prosperity in the Great Lakes Region of Africa, Croatia’s contribution to alleviating humanitarian crises was highlighted through various development and humanitarian projects, as well as through the educational engagement of the Andrija Štampar School of Public Health in African countries.

The Paris Peace Forum has been held annually since 2018. Its main objective is to provide a platform for diverse global actors - governments international organizations, the business community, and civil society - to collaborate in advancing global peace and sustainable prosperity.
